Rockhampton Riverside Rivitalisation, Rockhampton Qld
Located between Mackay and Brisbane, Rockhampton has long been a road trip pit stop, but is gaining popularity in a destination of its own right. The growth in tourism has prompted the Rockhampton Regional Council to invest in revitalising the city centre. The Riverside redevelopment is the first phase in repositioning the city centre to become the heart of the region.
Project Design Brief
In the hot Queensland summer, part of this development was to include water fountains to attract families to the area. Designers needed to ensure a high level of pedestrian safety, keeping pavements as flat as possible with minimal falls to drainage elements. Heel safety and slip resistance were also a priority for designers. The drainage system also needed to withstand occasional traffic from council service vehicles.
