The Bell Tower, Perth WA
Situated between the city and the Swan River, The Bell Tower (Swan Bells) is one of Perth’s most famous landmarks. The 82.5-metre glass and copper structure contains a sixteen-bell peal, twelve of which are historic bells from St Martin-in-the-Fields church in Trafalgar Square, London. The bells were recorded as being in existence from the 14th century, and recast 200 years later.
Project Design Brief
The site had recently developed some drainage issues with water entering the ground floor of the tower during storms. Across the entrance, designers required an effective but compact barrier drain to be fitted into the timber floor and fixed to the underlying concrete slab. The grates needed to be attractive and pedestrian friendly.

- The shallow depth of the H200K channel of 130mm allowed the channel to be easily retrofitted into the existing slab
- The Stainless 5-Star Heelsafe® Anti-Slip grates with 6mm inlets met the pedestrian friendly slip criteria of P4 (AS 4586)
- Vertical outlets in the channel allowed water to evacuate into the underlying pipe work
