Performing Arts Complex Forecourt - Brisbane QLD
Brisbane City Council is advancing the Brisbane Metro Project, a 21 km turn-up-and-go rapid transit system. The project features two dedicated lines connecting 18 stations between Eight Mile Plains and Roma Street, and Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and The University of Queensland. As part of the works at QPAC, the Queensland Museum Forecourt underwent refurbishment, including the installation of new pavements, concrete works, and upgraded drainage systems.
Project Design Brief
Designers required a drainage system capable of efficiently capturing surface runoff from the new forecourt pavements, which were designed to maintain minimal gradients to achieve near-flat levels. Pedestrian safety, particularly accommodating stiletto heels, was a critical factor influencing drainage grate selection and placement. Additionally, the system needed to be as visually discreet as possible to preserve the forecourt aesthetics.
