Dayton District Open Space - Perth WA
The Dayton District Open Space, located in the Perth suburb of Dayton, is a $30 million sports facility comprising two senior-sized AFL ovals, two cricket ovals, two synthetic hockey fields, 12 netball and tennis courts, two rectangular grass fields, dedicated cricket practice areas, and two sports pavilions. The complex is designed to accommodate a diverse range of sports and support high usage levels in northeast Perth.
Project Design Brief
Drainage infrastructure was required around the courts, designed to handle surface runoff while accommodating pedestrian traffic. The system needed to comply with all pedestrian safety standards, including slip resistance and stiletto heel penetration requirements. Given the high density of trees surrounding the courts, maintenance access and debris management were key considerations in the drainage design to ensure long-term functionality.

Benefits
- The 0.5% built-in slope in the K200 channel allowed the new pavement to be constructed as flat as possible and still provide efficient drainage.
- The Iron Intercept Heelsafe Anti-Slip grate provides slip resistance of P3 to AS 4586 and Load Class D to AS 3996, which met the designer’s requirements.
- DrainLok barless and boltless locking mechanism enables easy access for maintenance.
