Burnie Tennis Centre, TAS
The Burnie Tennis Club located on the northwest coast of Tasmania has hosted the Burnie Tennis International, a professional tennis tournament since 2003 with prize money up to $75,000. The facility required an upgrade to meet professional-level tennis standards. The upgrade cost $1.06 million and included resurfacing 11 full size tennis courts and four half-size Hot Shot tennis courts. New lighting, power and data cabling, fences and surface drainage were also installed. The tournament brings an important economic benefit to the region.
Project Design Brief
The drainage was of critical concern for the designers as it had become inefficient and unable to cope with the rainfall demands of the region. The new design required a trench drainage system to replace the original pit and pipe network to enable the pavements to be installed as flat as possible to ensure pedestrian safety on the courts.
