Shepperton Road Bus Lanes - Victoria Park WA

As part of the METRONET Armadale Line shutdown, Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) implemented upgrades to priority bus lanes to support public transport during the closure. This included an additional 1.2 km of priority bus lanes along Shepperton Road. The project also delivered a new signalised pedestrian crossing and introduced right-turn restrictions to enhance traffic flow and improve safety for all road users.

Project Design Brief

With road levels already established along Shepperton Road, designers needed to implement an effective drainage solution to ensure stormwater runoff was promptly captured from the carriageway. This was essential not only to maintain road safety but also to protect pedestrians from bus splash during heavy rainfall. The presence of existing underground services further constrained design options, necessitating a compact and efficient drainage system.

ACO's Solution

Benefits

  • Unlike conventional kerb and gutter systems, KerbDrain transforms kerbs into continuous capture inlet structures with minimal excavation.
  • The profile of the QK200B is similar to MRWA’s Type B Barrier Kerb ensuring visual continuity and smooth transition with existing kerbs.
  • Access units are positioned along the drainage runs to ensure easy access for rodding maintenance.
