Main Street Upgrade, Virginia, SA
Virginia, located on the rural outskirts of Adelaide in South Australia, has seen a $9 million upgrade to Main Street, funded by the City of Playford. The project includes wider pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, new gardens and trees, and a children’s playground at the Virginia Institute Park. Additionally, significant enhancements to stormwater infrastructure were a key part of the development.
Project Design Brief
A key objective of the design brief was to enhance Main Street’s accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. Efficient stormwater management was essential and any new drainage system had to comply with multiple legislative requirements for high pedestrian traffic. To support pedestrian movement and activities, footpaths were designed to be wider.
